Rain dripping down a window pane inspired this work.
This is an encaustic wax monotype on Japanese rice paper, matted and ready to pop into a frame.
The piece itself measures 12 x 9 inches, and is secured in a professionally cut archival matboard measuring 16 x 12 in.
Encaustic wax is an ancient medium used by the Romans and Egyptians to commemorate their dead. Samples survive today in the Louvre. Encaustic wax monotypes are an updated method of using the medium, created by melting beeswax, resin and pigment on a heated plate. I then use a variety of tools to design my composition on the hot-plate, then lay down a sheet of paper to lift up the design.
This piece is ready to frame, and ships in a cardboard sleeve.
