In the harsh mountain climate of the southern Rocky Mountains, the trees often feel like gentle warriors or protectors. I have come to love certain of the trees around my home, standing like sentinals and warding off evil spirits.
This tree--the Protector-- is an aged pinon tree, right outside my window. It hosts hummingbirds, woodpeckers, tanagers, finches, and provides shade and shelter for the family of deer that live nearby.
My hope is that in creating this piece, someone who needs protection may benefit from this powerful tree's presence.
