In the harsh mountain climate of the southern Rocky Mountains, the trees often feel like gentle warriors or protectors. I have come to love certain of the trees around my home, standing like sentinals and warding off evil spirits.
This tree--the Protector-- is an aged pinon tree, right outside my window. It hosts hummingbirds, woodpeckers, tanagers, finches, and provides shade and shelter for the familys of deer that live nearby.
This piece offers a quiet moment of strength and calm, centered around a solitary pinon tree standing tall against the mountain landscape. The tree’s sturdy trunk and rich green canopy convey a sense of guardianship, as if it silently watches over the land and all who dwell nearby.
